tangles on purple background

I have managed to make this drawing while HB was looking at the tour de France. I had this coloured background made with leftover watercolour paint from another project. It seems i just cann’t waist paint.
I have choosen to put the Alea (Aida Rico) pattern on a diagonal line . Same for the Tommy ( Barbara Duel Johnson) pattern. And Snack ( Tomas Padros) on the frame. I have used dark purple and brown colourpencils for shading. 

Deze tekening heb ik gemaakt tijdens een reportage van de tour de France. Ik heb de gekleurde achtergrond gemaakt met een overschotje aquarelverf van een ander project. Ik kan echt geen verf verspillen. Ik koos ervoor om het Alea (Aida Rico) op de diagonaal te plaatsen. Evenals het Tommy ( Barbara Duel Johnson) . En Snack ( Tomas Padros) is gebruikt als een soort frame. Voor het schaduwen is purper en donkerbruin kleurpotlood gebruikt.

Drama and overflow

A while ago i had to watch over my granddaughter who had catched a cold; I decided to make a drawing and use The art raffle(https://enioken.com/blog/artraffleandpezino?rq=artraffle%20) to select the patterns and enhancements. This was the set that came up:

So I got Paradisum(Oswaldo Sandoval),Airis(Alena light) Kwazeela(Eni Oken) en Articulated molygon( zentangle® together with drama/contrast and overflow the frame. Below is my drawing. I have used heavy shading and bronze watercolour to add some drama to the background. While granddaughter was watching her favorite cartoon, i had a great time drawing. And fortunately at the end of the day she was feeling much better.

Watercolours test/Een test met waterverf

I did some testing of some watercolours i obtained this weekend. Secondhand but they are as new: a travel set of windsor&Newton, 6 tubes of 15ml daniëlsmith extrafine watercolours and a set of cheaperbrand colours to use in my sketchjournal.I got them all for half the price of the tubes. I guess it was a good deal. The test of W&N and the cheap make it clear. the cheap are for sketchjournal only as the mix into mud quit soon. (brown center upperflower shouds have been purple).

this is a test to see how layering works with the cheap brand. It seems better to layer the paints instead of mixing . I added some tree shapes to make a tiny landscape;

These are bubbles made on printerpaper in my sketchbook. the paper is really flimsy and i had to spread the paint with my brush because it won’t flow.

Below you can see bubbles made with Windsor&Newton on Canson watercolorpaper. Such a big difference: brighter and the colours flow nicely even with a minimun of paint loaded on the brush.

Clusters op waterverf

Het patroontje voor de weekuitdaging was “Clusters” te vinden op https://www.musterquelle.de/2737-cluster.html. Ik wist niet meteen wat ik daarmee wou beginnen. Toen vond ik deze ongebruikte waterverf achtergrond. Het was er eentje waar ik niet tevreden over was. Ik had de kleuren wat afgezwakt met een weinig witte gesso. Daarna was hij achtergebleven in een tekenblok.

Nu, om te gebruiken met clusters en phuds(Cindy Angiel) zag ik toch wat mogelijkheden. Het phuds patroon heb ik nadien nog wat bijgewerkt met kleurpotlood omdat die in de erg lichte rand lagen.

I made this on a left behind background. It was a colourmess that i tuned down with a little bit of white gesso. With the round shapes showing trought it was exactly what i needed with this clusterpattern. I have added some colourpencil to the lightest blue part.

Dagwinde (Ipomoea purpurea)

Elke morgen bewonder ik de kleurenpracht van enkele nieuwe bloemen van de dagwinde. Helaas verdwijnt die mooie , levendige kleur al tegen de middag. Ik probeerde iets van die pracht te vangen in een eerder abstracte weergave van deze bloemenin een aquarel. 

Every morning i admire the colours of some new morningglories.Sadly the colour disappears already around midday. I tried to capture the colours in an abstract watercolour painting of the flowers.

Dit was de trial in mijn schetsboek; this was the trial in my sketchbook.

De definitieve versie werd een eerder abstracte weergave van de trechtervormige bloemen.

Weer een leuke aquarel oefening en een middagje schilderplezier.

The final version is rather abstract reproduction of the flowers. But i had an afternoon full of un while painting.

Studie van geweven patronen

Deze week waren geweven patronen de uitdaging op de club.

Ik ging meteen aan de slag en nam een kijkje op de website van Eni Oken want daar komt de inspiratie vandaan.

Daarna ging ik zelf op zoek naar gepaste patronen:

This week it is all about woven patterns. I took a look at the website from Eni Oken(link above) . that is were the inspiration comes from.

Then i started looking for suitable patterns.

Een eerste oefening en een tekening over een waterverfachtergrond.

A first exercise and a drawing over a watercolour back ground.

Dit is de definitieve tekening. De lijnen zijn wat flauwtjes . Mijn pen is duidelijk aan vervanging toe.

This is the final drawing. The lines are a bit faint. I really need a new pen for more contrast in the drawing.

About a quote

This weeks quote to use for our June challenge is; “Let go of whatever makes you stop. ” by John L. Mason. After some trials i came up with this idea: a banner with the quote and a cross below. As in make a cross over what makes you stop. Not sure if I put this in to practise because very often i don’t know what makes me stop. Most of all it is procratination i think. Oh well this kind of quotes makes me think seriously about things.But in the end it is more about making the drawing and make the patterns work.

De spreuk voor onze juni uitdaging klinkt als volgt:” laat los wat je tegenhoudt” (vrij vertaald). Na wat proefjes kwam ik tot het volgende idee: een banner met daaronder een kruis. Als in maak een kruis over wat je tegenhoud. Ik weet meestal niet wat mij tegenhoud. Waarschijnlijk is het in de meeste gevallen uitstelgedrag. Zo’n uitdaging doet je wel eens diep nadenken maar uiteindelijk gaat het toch om tekenplezier en het vinden van een leuk manier om de patroontjes te gebruiken.

Blauwe bloempjes

Deze lieve kleine bloempjes , bijna onzichtbaar in het hoge gras,vond ik bij een wandeling.

Ik vond het een leuk idee om er een schilderijtje van te maken. Het was niet mijn bedoeling om een realistische weergave van de foto te maken . Het is meer een impressie van de bloempjes en de vormen van de blaadjes errond.

These are the sweet little flowers i found between the high gras on a walk. I found it a nice idea to paint them. It was not my intention to make a detailled copy of the photo. It is just an impression of the little blue flowers and the shapes of the leafs around it.

Chakra and patterns

I got this challenge: sacral chakra, patterns: moonrose, beautyfly and waterflow(to be found under pattern focus,Pattern-collections.com). Thank you Chel.I asked myself oh… what should i do with those patterns? Then i tought about something i saw online lately: “What if i use a resist to draw the chakra template. What resist? acrylic paint or wax crayons or maybe the oil crayons that i never use. that is what i did. I have drawn the chakra with white oilcrayon , then paint background with watercolours and then draw the patterns moonrose, beautyfly and waterflow. I can tell you it was fun to make and i am quit pleased with the result.it just turned out a bit too pink. But that is not a bad thing, isn’t it?

Rocky hills

Een eerste poging om te tanglen met gebruik van de art-raffle app van Eni Oken.

het was leuk tekenen, ook al was het op copypapier tijdens het oppassen van onze zieke kleindochter. Het gaat gelukkig al weer beter met haar.

My first attempt to draw with the use of the artraffle app. See link above. I don’t gain anything by mentioning the app here . It is a fun app and she must have put a lot of effort in Building it So she deserves at least a reference to the app.

It was fun even as i had to draw on copypaper while watching our sick granddauther. She is ok again now.

nota voor mezelf.Hou het simpel want met te veel patroontjes wordt het gauw overweldigend.

Note to myself: Keep it simple because it is overwhelming if one uses to many patterns.
